Happy New Year!

Welcome back! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season. The new year has started on a high note with a delightful visit from Singing Hands. The Nest and all year groups had the chance to sing and sign along with them, creating an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.

As we move into the spring term, we have many exciting events planned for the Spring Terms:

  • Year 1 Trip: A visit to the London Eye, where children will have the opportunity to explore one of London's most iconic landmarks.

  • Reception Trip: An adventurous day at Windsor Castle, immersing our youngest learners in history.

  • Year 2 Forest Day: A fun-filled outdoor learning experience at Black Park.

  • Music Trips: We are thrilled to take two more groups of 20 Y2 children to London to watch performances by the London Symphony Orchestra and the London Philharmonic Orchestra. These outings promise to inspire and enrich their musical education.

  • Phoenix Iftar Celebration - save the date: Friday 14th March

Healthy Eating Reminder

We want to emphasise the importance of healthy eating and encourage all families to ensure children bring nutritious snacks to school. Recently, we have noticed an increase in children eating chocolates and crisps after school. Instead, please opt for healthier alternatives such as fruits, vegetables, or other wholesome options.

Celebrating Birthdays

While we love celebrating your children's birthdays, we kindly request that you avoid bringing in chocolates, sweets, or cakes. Instead, consider donating a book to the school or sending in a small contribution (we suggest £5). Your child will then have the joy of picking a "birthday book" to add to their class library—a gift that will benefit the entire class and encourage a love of reading.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Here's to a fantastic spring term filled with learning, growth, and memorable experiences!

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Jarrett

Principal

Celebrating our Children!

For English this half term, children in Year 1 will be reading the book 'The Queens Hat'. In today's writing, children were pretending to be a police office and wrote down some questions to ask the Queen about her missing hat.  Year 1 have also been writing stories and were focusing on their stories having a beginning, middle and end. They chose their settings, food, adventure, where they slept from a pictures of each section.

Year 2 tasted pizzas today as part of their DT project this half term where we will be designing, making and evaluating our own healthy pizzas and pizza brands. They got to try two different margarita pizzas and decide which we liked and why.

Student Leadership

{item_alt_tag}

Eco Council have been working hard to complete an environmental audit of our school.  Following this they have selected 3 areas to focus on and created an action plan.  They will be continuing to work on this during the rest of the school year.

They met again today and have decided to raise money for endangered animals and an animal rescue centre by holding a non-uniform day where everyone is invited to dress up as an animal for a donation. This will be on Friday, 31st January so save the date and start thinking about which anmal you will be coming as!

The Nest

The pupils in the Nest have settled back beautifully after the Christmas holidays, embracing the new term with smiles and enthusiasm. They had great time during the Singing Hands workshop, engaging with the songs and activities with excitement and joy!

Music Updates

Everyone loved the Singing Hands workshops held on Thursday! We sang a range of songs from nursery rhymes to pop songs and used lots of different props including light up sticks, ribbons and scarves.

Isaac - We sang the emotions dance song. We had to make faces for different feelings.  I had a great time!

Sienna - We were singing. We had to swing the lights around and the hall lights were turned off and it was like a party!

Agata - We used signing.  The lights were fun - it was like a disco!

The children in Kingfisher class said:

"I really enjoyed singing all the new songs".

"I felt happy when I was singing".

"It was very exciting when we were holding the Pom poms".

Reporting your child's absence when they are ill

{item_alt_tag}

We have had a lot of cases recently where your child's absence has not been reported. If your child is ill, you must call the office to inform the school EVERY DAY of your child's absence. This is inline with our policy and is a repeat of lots of information already shared.

If your child's absence is not reported, then this will be recorded as unauthorised. As with previous communications, unauthorised absences risk fines - remember, it only takes 5 days of unauthorised absence to risk receiving a fine.

As always, we want to work with our parent community and support your child. However, we also need our parent community to follow the school procedures and report your child's absence.
