Messages from the Principal, Miss Jarrett

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the half-term break, I want to take a moment to reflect on the wonderful events and achievements of the past weeks. It's been lovely to see so many Year 1 and 2 parents in school for our curriculum celebrations this week. Your involvement and support mean the world to us and significantly enhance the learning experience for our children. I am looking forward to seeing you in school again after half term for our "Read with Someone you Love" events taking place in all classes as part of Empathy day.

Ensuring our curriculum is ambitious and enriching for all our students is a priority. We're excited about the great things planned for the next half term. Amongst the highlights is Year 2's much-anticipated trip to the beach, a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning and exploration.

Additionally, our school choir will join other schools from Slough for a performance at The Hexagon. Despite being the youngest participants, our students' enthusiasm and talent shine brightly, and I have no doubt they will impress everyone once again!

Just a reminder that before and after school children should not be playing on any of the equipment, either in the playgrounds or under the sheltered areas.  No child should be playing football or riding their bikes whilst on the school site (some of our paths are too narrow to allow this to be done safely).

Please do help us by ensuring appropriate supervision of your children during start and end of day which will help reduce the risk of accidents occurring.

Thank you for your continued support. Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half-term break.

Warm regards,

Miss Jarrett

Celebrating our Children!

Year 1 have been learning all about explanation texts. They have been writing about the life cycle of a plant, which year 1 have also been learning about in science. They also wrote about the topic 'How bees make honey.' Angelpreet was able to recall and write some amazing facts about the process, while keeping her presentation beautiful and using full sentences.

In maths year 1 have been learning about money. They have learned to find the total and change from 50p and £1. Why not make a shop at home and practise finding the total and change? Or even go to the real shop and buy a small treat and work out how much change you will get?

Year 2 had a fabulous workshop led by Mrs Hussain, as part of their RE learning on Jummah.  They learnt that Jummah is congregational prayer held on a Friday just after noon at the mosque. Praying together as a community is meant to develop the feeling of unity among the Muslim community.

Over the past few weeks, children in every class took part in The Federation of Children's Book Groups, Children's Book Awards. Reception and Year 1 read 4 picture books and voted on them and Year 2 read 3 chapter books and voted on them. We then submitted our votes online and the overall winners will be announced at the beginning of June.

It was lovely to see so many parents in school this week celebrating our children's learning in KS1! And congratulations also go to all the parents who successfully completed Mrs Hester's phonics workshop series last Friday! Reception parents - Mrs Hester will be sending out invitations to targeted parents after half term so watch this space and do take up this fantastic offer if you are invited.

Take a look at our wonderful dancers! These are the photos from the dance festival a few weeks ago.  We were the youngest participants, but we definitely think we were the best!

Attendance - Advance Notice of Changes

Last week I wrote about the changes that will be coming to both our School Procedures and to the process Slough Borough Council will be using to issue Fixed Penalty Notices linked to Attendance.

The 'flyer' below, from Slough Borough Council, explains this further.

New technology being used in our classrooms

Two of our Y2 classes had the chance to present their Science learning in a new way last week. We used our new iPads to record our Science learning and use a 'Green Screen' to transform the way our videos look. It was a very exciting opportunity and we will continue working on our Green Screen skills and videos to experiment some more.
