Messages from the Principal, Mrs Pelazza
A very warm welcome back to you all. I do hope you've had a happy and healthy summer break.
My staff and I are looking forward to another successful year continuing to '...provide a foundation of entitlement, opportunity and inclusivity on which all our children are fully supported to develop into happy, healthy and successful individuals.' (Phoenix Infants' School Vision.)
In doing so, we will support our little ones to further develop their wisdom, open-mindedness, independence and compassion. And I am excited to continue to work with our entire community to further develop our positive relationships in order to make this happen. We couldn't do it without you!
Should you need anything, please do not hesitate to contact me.
HOW HEROIC ARE YOU?!
We hold the firm belief that everyone associated with our school community is HEROIC (Honest, Empathetic, Respectful, Optimistic, Independent and Curious)and should demonstrate these school values at all times both on and off site.
This half-term, we are promoting our value of HONESTY. Please talk to your child about what this means to you and let's model at all times.
The Designated Safeguarding Lead has a crucial role in taking lead responsibility for child protection issues in school. DSLs must be senior members of the school’s leadership team, and at Phoenix Infant Academy we have 3 DSLs forming a team with Miss Jarrett as the Senior in position (please see photos below).
A DSL is always available during school hours for staff to discuss any safeguarding concerns. On most days there is a DSL in school from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm and DSLs are always contactable by telephone or email outside these hours. If parents have any concerns, please speak to the school office for an appointment or contact Miss Jarrett on Class Dojo. Please also see the 'Safeguarding' section of our website.
DSLs are trained to take on this role and that training is updated every two years with additional training and conferences in between. The DSL has many responsibilities including working with staff and agencies involved in safeguarding children, working with parents and families, giving advice to staff, training staff, managing referrals from staff and investigating concerns passing them onto the correct body as necessary, managing the records of safeguarding and Child Protection concerns and keeping their own knowledge up to date.
MOBILE PHONES
Please remember, mobile phones should not be used anywhere on site. This includes taking photos, texting, receiving/making telephone calls and using the Internet.

Parents/carers/families will need to scan the code which will take them to a booking site. Please clink on this link.
ATTENDANCE
Parents/carers are responsible for making sure that their children receive a suitable full-time education. Children also have the right to an 'effective education' (Protocol 1, Article 2, Human Rights Act 1998.)
Children must therefore attend school regularly.
We aim to work closely with all our families to build a culture, together, of high expectations. This may include discussing support the school can offer you to improve punctuality and attendance. Please do make an appointment to meet your child's class teacher if you feel you could benefit from any help.
We understand that if your child is unwell they may not be able to attend school.
If your child is absent as a result of illness, please phone us from 8:00-8:30am on 01753 521888 on the first day of absence and each subsequent day, to let us know the reason.
All attendance expectations can be found on our website.
Our School Needs You!
Would you like to be more 'hands on' in supporting the school and local community? If so, we would love to hear from you!
We are looking for parent volunteers to join Phoenix Infants' Parents, or PIP for short!
You could give as much or as little of your time as possible.
To express an interest, please click here and complete the online form.
Fundraising for Victims of the Pakistan Floods
Thank you to everyone who has helped us fundraise so far. If you would like to make any further donations, please see a member of the office staff next week. We will be fundraising on the gates following the nation's official period of mourning.
At the end of this half-term, there will be a PRIZE DRAW to win a £40 Clarks gift voucher.
To be entered, your child must have an attendance of 96% or above. This equates to a maximum of 1.5 days or 3 sessions (a session is a morning or an afternoon) of absence.
The winner will be announced on Friday 21st October.
Clubs
Sign up for clubs via ParentPay will be taking place from Monday 12th September. These will go live that morning.
This autumn term, we are celebrating the Lionesses' Euro 2022 victory and will be running a girls only football club (we hope to offer football to all later in the spring term.) Also on offer will be multi-sports, yoga and rugby.
Fencing will be continuing Monday lunchtimes and information regarding sign up will be posted to Class Dojo in due course.
Clubs will cost £2 per session with a discount available for children eligible for free school meals. If your circumstances have changed this summer and you believe your child is now entitled to these, please speak to a member of the school office.
All clubs will start week commencing Monday 19th September.
New Bike and Scooter Storage
You may have noticed, we have installed several new bike and scooter pods around the site.
We look forward to seeing lots of children cycling and scooting to school, and storing these items securely.
If you need any support, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for continuing to be respectful of one another, my staff and our school expectations.
