Thank you to everyone who has spoken to me since I shared the news of my appointment as Principal of Phoenix Infants. It is a privilege to be leading Phoenix and along with you all I am looking forward to continuing to grow and develop our wonderful school. Next half term we will be asking all parents to complete a survey to provide us with your feedback on how we are doing - so please do start thinking now of all the great things you think we do, and anything you think we could improve on.
This year is going by so quickly! Just 1 more week of school before half term and then we are into the final term of the school year! It has been great to see our school attendance at it's highest for a long time - we must keep this going so watch out for our next attendance challenge which will be coming out soon!
Isn't it lovely to have seen the sunshine this week! Let's hope this continues over the next few weeks, with Reception visiting Odds Farm next week, Year 2 visiting Hampton Court when we return after half term, Arts week, our summer fair and lots of sporting events! It's going to be a busy term so please make sure you are checking the school calendar on the website so that you know what's going on!
Have a lovely weekend

Safeguarding
The focus of #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek this year has been anxiety. Anxiety is a natural emotional response to stress or a perceived threat which we all experience. For others though, anxiety disorders significantly interfere with daily life. There are lots of resources to support parents, but we recommend regularly spending time talking with your child about how they are feeling. See the picture below for some questions that can help these conversations. A couple of websites we also recommend include:
A few weeks ago the Bursts app went live! Parents should all have been sent an email inviting you to download and set up a free account. Thank you to those who have already set up their accounts.
The purpose of Bursts is to transform EVERY child's physical literacy and progress in Physical Education by bridging the gap between school and home, so please check through your emails and get your child moving today! Watch this video for more information: https://vimeo.com/775957250
If you haven't received an email, please let us know.
Upcoming Sporting Events
Next week we welcome back Rajinder Singh, The Skipping Sikh, to school to demonstrate how great skipping is for fitness (and our mental health).
6th and 7th June - Dan the Skipping Man workshops (all classes). We will confirm each classes workshop date next week. Children in KS1 should wear their PE kit on their workshop day.
30th June - Sports Day. Parents welcome to attend - timings will be communicated after half term.
Healthy Eating
We are seeing an increase in chocolates and sweets in lunch boxes and being handed out at the end of the day. This means children are getting too much sugar in their diet, which has the potential to harm their development (increasing the risk of tooth decay and obesity). Please do not include chocolates and cakes in your child's lunchbox and aim for a balanced diet. Please avoid bringing your child sweets at the end of the day - we recommend a piece of fruit, crackers or cheese. Please do speak to your child's class teacher if you are worried about your child's eating habits as we are here to help.
The NHS advise "Discourage your child from having sugary or high-fat foods like sweets, cakes, biscuits, some sugary cereals, and sugar-sweetened soft and fizzy drinks. These foods and drinks tend to be high in calories and low in nutrients.
Aim for your child to get most of their calories from healthier foods like fruit and vegetables, and starchy foods like bread, potatoes, pasta and rice (preferably wholemeal). And switch sweetened soft drinks for water."
Next week is Walk to School Week! If you usually drive to school please give walking a try instead (or park a little further away and walk from there)! We also have lovely bike and scooter racks ready for children to park up their bikes/scooters and would love to see these filled!
WHY THE WALK TO SCHOOL MATTERS
HAPPIER CHILDREN
It’s been proven that children who do some form of exercise, especially a walk before school, do better in class because they arrive refreshed, fit and ready to learn.
LESS CONGESTION
During morning peak traffic times, one in five cars on the road are taking children school, contributing to congestion, air pollution and carbon emissions.
CLEANER AIR
The school run alone is responsible for generating half a million tonnes of CO2 per year (which is more than some small countries!). Imagine what we could achieve if we began converting some of these rides to strides?
Coronation Celebrations
Musa and his family had a great time celebrating the King's Coronation at a street party in Slough - and were in the Slough Observer!
Some of the children in Heron class have written letters to the King to congratulate him and ask him some questions - including inviting him to visit us! We are eagerly awaiting his reply!
ATTENDANCE
Thank you to all parents/carers who continue to ensure their children attend school regularly.
This week Year 2 has the highest attendance of any year group across the school. Well done!!
The class winners in each year group can be seen below.

Please do get in touch if you would like any support getting your child to school and on time.

Wow! What an amazing achievement - our highest 3 week period of attendance!
8 out of 9 classes managed to stay above our school target of 96% for the whole 3 weeks. We even had 2 classes that managed 100% in a week.
This has been a fantastic success .... so, Mr Bowskill will be announcing a new attendance challenge soon.
What will it be?
Mr Bowskill says it'll be better than chocolate! Watch out on Class Dojo.
Our Year 1s had a great time at @bekonscot last week. They loved the workshop where they got to learn about and play with old and new toys. Thank you for having us! https://t.co/qcpyhrarKG
This week, Miss Holmes from @SloughMusic came in to share her instruments with Year 1. She showed us how the flute can sound like many different things, such as birds, heroes and princesses! https://t.co/AcQsqJHW2o
