It has been lovely welcoming the children back this week. Mrs Pelazza popped in for a visit on Monday afternoon. It was lovely to see her and be able to thank her for all that she has done at Phoenix Infants during her time here. We all wish her well in her future endeavours.
The recruitment process has now started for our new Principal and we will update you all in due course.
This term is due to be a busy one, with Book and Science weeks taking place as well as planned trips for Year 1 and 2. Do make sure you take a look at the calendar dates on the school website so that you know what is coming up!
SAFEGUARDING
Road Safety
We have been informed recently that children are not wearing seat belts. It is vitally important that all passengers wear them as a safety measure - this is the law in the UK. They significantly reduce the risk of serious injury. Children should also use an appropriate car seat at all times when travelling in a vehicle.
You must also never leave your child unattended in the car, even if for a short period. This could put them at possible risk of harm.
Book Week
We are looking froward to celebrating book week next week and have lots of exciting events planned! On Tuesday is our bedtime stories evening event for those who have signed up! Please remember to drop off and pick up at the Y1 classrooms.
Cake Baking Competition and Cake/Book Sale: Wednesday
The school librarians would like to invite children to take part in a cake baking competition! The cakes should be baked and decorated at home in the theme of a favourite book (e.g. The Very Hungry Caterpillar as shown in the photograph). Cakes should be brought to the school office on Wednesday morning by 9am. Please provide a list of ingredients and the entries will then be judged by the school librarians (there will be a prize). The cakes will then be sold after school as part of our cake and book sale to raise money for new books for the school library.
WORLD BOOK DAY
On Thursday 2nd March, as part of our book week, we will be celebrating World Book Day.
Children (and staff!) are invited to dress up as their favourite book character. This doesn't have to be costly; many costumes you might have hiding in your wardrobes at home! Here are some examples:
Paddington - a red hat and blue coat
Alice in Wonderland - a blue dress and white apron
Mr Bump - a blue jumper and a bandage/toilet roll
Matilda - blue dress
We are looking forward to seeing a range of wonderful costumes!
Strike Update
As you know, the National Education Union has announced strike action next Thursday 2nd March. In this instance the school is able to remain fully open to all children.
A decision regarding the strikes planned for 15th and/or 16th March will be made and communicated to you nearer the time.
Please note that children that received vouchers previously these will role over if there is a closure due to the impact of the school due industrial action on the 15 and/or 16 March.
